Discover 13 charming villages
To help you prepare for your holiday in the Ubaye valley, during your stay at the Domaine de l’Ubaye campsite. Include in your itinerary the discovery of a few villages with character.
The valley’s capital, Barcelonnette, is of course a must-see: a charming and unique city with an exceptional architectural heritage. Its history and atypical atmosphere are linked to the Mexican adventures of its inhabitants, who left en masse to make their fortunes across the Atlantic in the 19ᵉ century.
But along the Ubaye and in the upper reaches of the valley, there are other heritage treasures not to be missed, such as the village of Ubaye-Serre-Ponçon and its sublime panoramas, or Méolans-Revel and its perched bell tower.
The oldest village in the valley, Faucon-de-Barcelonnette boasts a unique religious heritage and a renowned earthenware factory.
Also steeped in history, the village of Saint-Pons will charm you with its beautiful buildings, old church and idyllic setting. In summer, the harvest festival is one of the Ubaye valley’s must-see tourist events!
Lake District
Emblematic with its turquoise waters dominated by the Alpine mountains, Lac de Serre-Ponçon is the hub of many tourist activities in the Ubaye valley.
You can swim there from beautiful beaches such as Saint-Vincent-les-Forts.
You can also paddle, pedal-boat, canoe or enjoy more dynamic activities such as jet-skiing, water-skiing and towed buoys.
Fishing enthusiasts also appreciate the beauty of its banks.

Magnificent hikes
Other bodies of water have earned the Ubaye valley its name of “lake country“. Discover them on magnificent hikes through Alpine pastures.
From Lac de la Cayolle to Lac de Pelouse, from Lac du Lauzanier to Lac de la Braissette, each one is revealed like a jewel in a green setting.
Every lake in the valley has its own assets. Le Lauzet-Ubaye is ideal for swimming and relaxing on its pebble beaches.
The Jausiers lake is perfect for a family day out, with its wake-park, children’s games, barbecues and picnic tables.
